I know that there are many racetracks, speedways, raceway parks, road courses, and drag strips out there being reclaimed by mother nature. I didn’t know that I would be finding so many from people in such a short amount of time to add to my list and map. I started explaining why Nazareth Speedway meant so much to me being that I was from just down the road growing up. I also mentioned how the original Jackson County Speedway means so much to Walter because he lives in Michigan, in the city of Jackson, and it is just a stone’s throw away from where he currently lives. I am pleased and excited to be seeing so many that other people share across the internet and on social media that I can add to the list and to bring their histories to the forefront where they deserve to be.
It is exactly what I wanted to happen with this. I wanted it to be a place where people could express their love for abandoned racetracks. To get to converse with likeminded people and share the history of these places and the drivers that made their living at them. It isn’t all a good history, but it is still history and can help grow people’s knowledge on the facilities and drivers that made motorsports in the United States what it is today. Just since starting this Substack and getting the socials for the podcast live, I have found groups and so many people sharing tracks from all over the country. Whether I knew the place or not, it is amazing to see so many engaged in this exact topic. It has been extremely encouraging to say the least, but this journey is just beginning.
The list has is growing everyday by many tracks. Here is a small snippet of the list that has been added in the last few days.
Challenger Speedway - Homer City, PA
Wee Town Outlaw Speedway - Fergus Falls, MN
Log Cabin Speedway - Henry, VA
Albany Georgia Motor Speedway - - Albany, GA (Last known as Black Horse)
South Georgia Motor Park - Cecil, GA
That Isn’t Close to All of Them
There are many more that have been added outside of the ones listed above. It is a list that continues to grow by the day, and I imagine will continue to grow for as long as I’m still alive. Check out those tracks and their histories. Follow the socials. Follow and checkout the podcast on all of the available platforms. Share everything out to get it to more people.
Most importantly let me know of any other tracks out there. I might know them, and I might not but letting me know can’t hurt. I appreciate it all as always. The YouTube for the preview episode is below.
P.S. Don’t let the fact that the short track package for the new car make people hate what they did in bringing North Wilkesboro back from the dead. They had good racing in other series. The Cup car is just terrible on short tracks.
I appreciate you all.
